Setting A Static Front Page & Blog Page
by Sammy Russo on February 18th, 2010
If you are planning on using WordPress to run your website using pages and also have a blog in one installation then here is how you set a static front page and also designate a home page for your WordPress blog.
Out of the box your Front page or home page is the chronological series of your lastest posts. To change that to have a static front page and have your blog posts appear on a different page you simply need to change 2 settings in the dashboard.
Before we get to the settings you need to create 2 WordPress Pages, 1 for the homepage and 1 for the blog page. Login to your dashboard and click Pages, then Add New Page. Give it a title.. this first page will be the homepage and the post slug on this first page is irrelevant. Add your copy for the home page and publish it. Next Create a second page. Give it a title of Blog or something to that effect. Then change the post slug to /blog/ and publish it also/
Now go in the settings menu for Settings > Reading; at the top of Reading the page under “Front Page Displays” choose the second radio button “A Static Page”. From the first drop menu titled Front Page, choose the WP Page that you just created for the homepage and choose the new blog page as the Posts Page. Save your settings.
